What is needed for FCRA registration
3 Years of Existence
The NGO must have been in existence for at least 3 years from the date of registration before applying.
Rs. 15 Lakh Expenditure
The NGO must have spent at least Rs. 15 lakhs on its charitable activities in the preceding 3 financial years.
12A Registration
Valid 12A income tax exemption certificate is mandatory as a prerequisite for FCRA registration.
Audited Accounts
Audited financial statements for the preceding 3 years showing charitable expenditure must be submitted.

Frequently asked questions
FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) registration allows an NGO to legally receive donations and contributions from foreign sources. Without FCRA registration, accepting foreign funds is illegal and punishable under the Act.
An NGO that has been registered for at least 3 years, has spent at least Rs. 15 lakhs on its core charitable activities during the preceding 3 years, and has 12A registration from the Income Tax department is eligible to apply.
If an NGO has not completed 3 years of operation, it can apply for prior permission (Form FC-3B) to receive a specific foreign contribution for a specific purpose. This is a one-time permission, not a permanent registration.
All FCRA funds must be received in a designated FCRA account at a notified branch of SBI, New Delhi Main Branch. Utilisation accounts can be maintained at other banks but funds must first flow through the FCRA account.
FCRA registration is valid for 5 years from the date of grant. Renewal must be applied for in Form FC-3C at least 6 months before expiry. Failure to renew causes the registration to lapse.
